What is Moorit?
Moorit is the genetically true brown colour in sheep, caused by the recessive b/b allele at the brown locus. For a Babydoll to express Moorit, it must inherit the brown allele from both parents, making Moorit a simple recessive trait with clear, predictable inheritance. Unlike sun‑bleaching or environmental fading, Moorit is a genetic colour, visible from birth and consistent throughout the animal’s life. In Babydolls, the Moorit allele is exceptionally rare, making genuine Moorit animals and proven carriers valuable for long‑term colour development programs.
Because Moorit is recessive, a sheep can silently carry the allele as B/b without showing any brown coloring.
